1. Kansas City Food Bank
The Kansas City Food Bank was formed by like-minded citizens wanting to eliminate food poverty in their area. Since it opened in 1984, they have expanded to include programs that serve a large portion of the state, including Wichita. The food bank staff works hard to recover food waste and purchase bulk stock that they supply to food pantries, soup kitchens, school nutrition programs, elderly facilities and delivery programs for the homebound.

2. Our Daily Bread Food Pantry
Our Daily Bread Food Pantry is a service organization created by the Catholic Charities in Wichita. Recipients can visit the market-style pantry once a month. A volunteer will help select up to three days’ worth of dry goods, canned foods, frozen meats, fresh produce and dairy from the shelves. They also distribute monthly allotments of U.S. government commodities and assist those eligible with their applications for SNAP food assistance.

3. UMC Open Door
The United Methodist Church (UMC) in Wichita was established in 1965. The UMC Open Door food pantry is just one of the programs they have developed to help lift members of their community out of the situations created by poverty. Clients can visit this drive-through pantry once each month during weekdays to retrieve boxes of non-perishable and perishable food items. USDA commodities can also be retrieved monthly for six months each year.

4. West Side Good Neighbor Center
West Side Good Neighbor Center was established by community volunteers interested in ending poverty. The food pantry they operate is open five times per month to distribute various perishable and non-perishable food to Wichita area residents. Each household is assigned points based on family size and need which they can then use to request food items from a list. There are no eligibility requirements other than residency for up to 12 visits within 18 months.

5. God’s Food Pantry
God’s Food Pantry is operated by the Holy Savior Catholic Church in Wichita. Volunteers from the church open the food pantry twice each month to distribute prepared boxes of non-perishable food items to all in need. There are no requirements to receive a distribution of food. Everyone who arrives will receive food from donations for as long as supplies last, with no limit on how many times they can visit.

6. Bread of Life
Volunteers founded bread of Life in 1991. Since then, they have made it their mission to end hunger in the Wichita area. They are open every Tuesday to distribute bags of groceries meant to meet the nutritional needs of the families that visit them for help. New recipients are interviewed by volunteers to assess their needs and provided with as much assistance as possible. The food pantry also facilitates a monthly distribution of fresh produce each month.

7. The Lord’s Diner
In 2000, Bishop Eugene J. Gerber gathered together community activists to discuss ways to end hunger in the Wichita area. Together, they decided to build The Lord’s Diner. By 2002, the doors opened to those who needed help with food insecurity. An evening meal is served daily, and snacks are provided for the homeless each morning. An additional food pantry helps families in the community by providing food boxes to supplement their home pantries.

8. Community Breakfast
The First Presbyterian Church of Wichita has deep roots in its community. Founded in 1869, they have been a lifeline to many among them over the years. The Community Breakfast outreach they maintain serves to provide food to the hungry among them. One Saturday per month, volunteers from the church and the community gather together to prepare breakfast for hundreds of people living in the surrounding area and pass out fresh produce.

9. FMCC Table of Hope
The First Metropolitan Community Church of Kansas founded Table of Hope to fight food poverty in the Wichita community. The food bank is open one day each week to hand out boxes of food to everyone who requires help meeting their nutritional needs. Each recipient is given a box of food suited to supplement their existing food stores and hopefully provide much-needed financial relief.

10. Derby Food Pantry
The Derby Food Pantry was created by local volunteers to help members of the Wichita community who may be experiencing food poverty. They are open every other week during the month by appointment to distribute non-perishable food items. During the week in between, they operate a drive-thru pantry with no appointment needed. Recipients must live in the area and be able to provide proof of address and family size.
